University student here, how do I move to Japan after I graduate?

Im an international student in a university in North America, but I’m from Southeast Asia legally speaking. Im studying computer science (software engineering) at my university and Im also learning Japanese. Ill organize and list all my current info and what I want to know:

Education: Planned Bachelors degree in Software Engineering

Japanese level: Past the false confidence of the Dunning Kruger effect, would say ok grammar and reading, but listening needs some work. Learning via immersion. Will likely be fluent or close to fluent by my graduation.

Visa: need a work visa, does not have visa free travel to Japan.

Ive already googled this and done research but I wanted some insight from some people who have gone through this before.

My questions:

1. Whats the process of finding a job as a foreigner?

2. What city/prefecture should I choose?

3. Are there any things that you wish you know before you took this step?

Thanks for reading and all answers are appreciated.

  2. Apply straight out of university. You may succeed in finding a role right away, but you will find it easier if you work a few years first. Either way having a decent amount of Japanese will also help

  3. > Will likely be fluent or close to fluent by my graduation.

I have way too many nickels, thanks.
