Not exactly Japan related, but my 70yr old mom is coming to visit this spring. I was thinking it would be nice to get her something travel/japan related for Christmas. She’s been here once, so something like a guidebook wouldn’t be a good match, plus I’m her guide. haha.
Anyways, any good ideas for the more senior traveller?
Bread maker experts, how do you make bread so that the outside isn’t hard?
I’ve been lax on my bathroom cleaning, and now the soapscum has gotten ahead of me. I’ve tried my usual scrubbing with vinegar/bicarbonate/citric acids, but it’s not shifting. My bathroom has one black wall so the white stands out and is driving me nuts.
Any recommendations for a good brand of cleaner that actually works?

Does anyone know what the small, furry flies are? I’ve never noticed them before, but I’ve been seeing them a lot outside lately.
They’re like little flies, but have white fur (?). They almost look like lint or fluff flying around.
Is SMBC cool with potential account holders being American? I just joined the club of getting my first bank application rejection (✨Rakuten✨) and remember some people talking about an SMBC Olive account. (I have a bank account I just want a *better* one).
ETA: Based on some comments I’ve seen floating around, looks like I might have to go my local branch in person. But still feel free to comment with any experiences!

How much can I transfer to my friend’s account temporariliy as I’m leaving Japan and it takes sometime to setup my bank at my new place? I’m planning to close bank account here and don’t want to create any issues for my friend. I’m looking if there are any tax concerns if I do this.
Has anyone ever tried and succeeded in getting their Japanese handwriting to look good and/or native? I can write in Japanese just fine, but for some reason the handwriting style I picked up, while perfectly readable, looks completely different from how Japanese people write. A few close people who can afford to be brutally honest have told me it looks like shit. That didn’t really used to bother me until recently when for reasons that are outside the scope of this post I realized that I want to improve my handwriting to look either more native, prettier or both. Has anyone done that? What’s a good approach? A friend suggested I take a 書道 class – would that really work?
Library cards. Are there any requirements for getting one? I’ve had one since I was a small child in my home country, but I’d like to have one here too. Is there an age requirement? I’d like to get my child one as well if I can, but obviously I could just use my own if not.
