Working Holiday Qs

(Obligatory apologise for the long post)

Some of the questions I have are probably best suited for more official channels but, I think I can still turn to the wisdom of internet strangers for some.

I’ve seen here people asking about language schools, which was a question I also had. I’m planning to do 3 three month course to help improve and practice my Japanese and, from what I’ve read here, more people have done it and in general recommend.
My question then is about the itinerary you present for the visa. On the website it says the working holiday visa isn’t for people wanting to study in Japan so, should I include the language school in my itinerary?
I’ve also read that you don’t need to follow the itinerary to a tee and that nobody checks up on you so, should I just make a more ‘appealing’ itinerary to improve my chances of getting the visa?
What kind of stuff do you generally put in the itinerary?

As for accommodations, are share houses the only/best option?

Lastly, I’m curious (and trying to insanity check myself), what’s the oldest someone has done this.
Am I crazy for wanting to do this at 30, when I have a cushy job (even though I don’t LOVE it). I can try to apply for a sabbatical year at the company, but I’m not yet sure if they do this and, I’ve heard of them doing shady sh*t to people taking long absences, so I’m not sure how safe I’d be.
Worst case scenario, I blow through all my savings and come back to no job. And even though I don’t think that’d be the end of the world, it’d be BAD.
Am I insane?

Thank you sages, source of eternal wisdom!

  2. Technically you could do 3 months of school on a tourist visa. While it should not be the main purpose of you taking the visa, you can indeed study while on working holiday, it’s not as if they really check. Personally did not study at all as I took Japanese class in university and just improved by using it daily. Yes sharehouse is an option, personally did homme stay. While you do not need to follow the itinerary, also try to write something you want to do for real.
