So my husband and I love to smoke meats and enjoy trying bbq restaurants that we find around Japan. His birthday is coming up and I was thinking of taking him on a bbq road trip.
On the list I have T’s bbq in Chiba. We are in Sendai but it seems like Tokyo or Osaka would be the way to go. Does anyone else have any places (even outside of those areas) with real legit bbq. Bonus points for brisket!

Hatos Bar is the best ribs in Tokyo IMO. I also really rate the pastrami from freemans shokudo.
After that smokehouse, big iowa and midtown are all “ok”.
Not exactly bbq, but Freeman Shokudo has a mean pastrami sammich (falling apart soft). It’s pricey AF and the rest of the food is good but not great, but damn that pastrami is insanely good.
Buddy’s Ribs, near Tsukuba.

Smokehouse in shibuya is probably the most well known bbq place in Tokyo
If you’re willing to come towards Yokohama, Byrd’e at Center Kita is good. Everything I’ve had there uas been good.
Midtown Tokyo. There’s also one in Yokohama.
Freeman Shokudo in Shibuya is good
So is Big Iowa BBQ
Smokehouse (T.Y. Harbor group) in Harajuku will do the trick.
Also it’s one of the only places I know of in the 16 years of living in Tokyo that you can get an actual Bloody Mary.
Chop Hits in Osaka is great.
