How long did it take you to find a teaching job while in Japan?

Hi all, I’m planning on going to Tokyo in the new year to try to find an English teaching position. I initially wanted to find a job before moving but so many schools prefer in-person interviews that I’ve decided to just go and try my luck.

I’m planning on going for one month but am not sure if that will be long enough, or if schools are generally willing to hire non-residents.

Does anyone have advice on how long the interview/hiring process usually is (excluding the visa process) and how the current job market for teachers is doing these days? Is finding a job in a few weeks optimistic?

Edit: A bit of additional information–I speak conversational Japanese and have previously lived in Japan (but not as a teacher). I have 6 years of teaching experience, TESOL, and an English degree. That said, I’m still going in a bit blind so any advice on what to look for or avoid in schools/academies would be great. TIA!
