Okay when I have a sentence 火曜日より水曜日のほうが寒かった。It means that Wednesday was colder than Tuesday (or that Tuesday was less cold than Wednesday) with より indicating what is less and のほうが indicating the part that is more of, in this case 寒い right?
But when I put the sentence in this form.
1) 火曜日は、水曜日より寒かった。
2) 火曜日は、水曜日のほうがさむかった。
I’d would have thought that the first one must mean that Tuesday was colder, since Wednesday is marked with より and therfore less.
And the second one must mean that Wednesday was colder since it is marked with のほうが and therefore more.
Buuuut… according to DeepL both mean that Tuesday was colder than Wednesday. Can someone explain why both seem to mean the same thing independently of より or のほうが here?
