Hey there!
I was hoping to get some advice. I’ve been living in China for almost 8 years now and I just turned 28. I’m looking to move on and find a place where I can settle down with my family. However, all the negative news I’ve been reading about other countries has made me hesitate. I’m particularly drawn to Japan, but there’s still a lot of negative news circulating about it that makes me nervous. I know that I shouldn’t believe everything I read in Chinese newspapers, but it’s still affecting me emotionally. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

**Moving to Japan after 8 years in China**
Hey there!

What’s your question? What have you heard and what are your expectations?
Japan is a great place to live in family if you know the language or have a good job. Otherwise, is difficult to give you an accurate answer.
who tf believes Chinese news?
Japan or not, get out of that shithole asap
1. Do you qualify for a [work visa](https://www.reddit.com/r/movingtojapan/wiki/visas)?
2. What do you intend to do for a living? Hint: Some initial jobs do not pay enough to raise a family.
Japan is very safe. However, getting a well paying job here without Japanese fluency is almost impossible.
China shits a lot on Japan, even more so after the Fukushima water incident in which China went to town with the fake news. I wouldn’t believe a word about Japan if it’s coming from Chinese sources.
Another reason is that Chinese people love to come to Japan for vacation and spend a lot of money here. But China doesn’t like that so they make Japan out to be dangerous, or anti-Chinese, etc.
Jesus Christ the Chinese news is good at brainwashing people
White people are critical of Chinese news here, because they don’t mind being brainwashed by their own CNNs and BBCs. This message will be super disliked. Don’t tell emperor that he is not wearing any clothes.
What news are you reading?
Japan is fine, quality of life is high, food and rent are cheap (relative to the US, both are probably expensive compared to China, but I’m not well versed). Most employment, especially all the good “settle down and raise family level salary” jobs are locked to at least N2 level fluency in Japanese.
What were you doing in China? Depending on the field, the skills may be very transferrable, or not at all. IT type work, in particular, is so critically in demand that the barriers to entry are lower. English teaching is also always in demand, but the money is not that great.
I work as a real estate agent pls let me know if you need help finding a place in Japan
Negative news? About Japan? Like it’s the safest, most affordable, most convenient G7 country with some of the greatest healthcare and tastiest food around?
My only beef with Japan is the weather is terrible (sunny but the summers are extremely hot and very long) and its difficult working culture / low salaries – but if you’ve spent years in China it’ll be a cake walk. I wish was more successful here as it’s a nice place to live.
