I am a Japanese national married to an EU partner and we got married in Europe. We’ve missed the deadline to register our marriage in Japan (we weren’t aware) and are thinking of getting a family member to submit our registration on our behalf before we move to Japan. I think we have to pay some sort of late fee. I was wondering if anyone has gone through the same process and if there were any other specific requirements other than what is stated on the city hall website. I’m not able to find a lot of information about family members submitting for you but I know it’s possible, they just give no guidelines. I am in the family register.
We are not going through the embassy here since they can take up to 3 months and we’ll be there before it even goes through. We just want to speed up the process so we have less things to do when we arrive (residence, bank registration, apartment hunting, moving in etc).
