How do I know what to put before は

So I’m just starting to learn Japanese and I just can’t understand what defines the “topic” of the conversation,

Sometimes it’s それは(something)です and other times it’s (smt)はそれです, i can’t understand when to use which

I know doko always comes before desuka BC it’s a question so it can’t be the “topic” but what about when it’s not a question? Is it always ここ/これ/それ/そこ は (smt) です; or are some of them structurally similar to どこ, as in kokodesu or soredesu.

Does it change if it’s an object or a place? Is kore always koreha and soku sokudesu, like are there some rules I’m missing? Please help 😅
