I want to start reading in Japanese because I heard that it is really important for getting vocab and making sure you can actually understand the Japanese instead of going off of context so, I recently picked ぼくはイエローでホワイトで、ちょっとブルー up at my local library and was wondering if it would be around N4 \~ N3 level because that’s where I am? JPDB says it’s a 5/10 but I’ve heard that the rating is more based on the length of the book than anything else. Just on the first few pages I am unable to really follow along comprehensively. Is JPDB 5/10 closer to N2 level? Or is it just skewed for this book?
As for ギフト, I picked it up on amazon and am waiting for it to arrive. JPDB says it is a 2/10, so maybe it is closer to an N4 level and I should return the other book to the library and pick it back up later on in my studies? Anyone who has read ギフト could you let me know if it is closer to N4 level please?
