Waiting to enroll at a 専門学校, thoughts?

I’m on a 定住者 visa since I’m nikkei, so pretty much no restrictions on what I can do. I’m currently working at a factory as 派遣社員, it’s an okay job, pays my bills and I save some money every paycheck well enough. While the job is fine, not stressful at all, I want to get into something that would pay me better and something more interesting. Are technical careers a good option here? I’m not interested in office careers, I used to do that back in my home country and it only made me realize that is not a life I want. I’ve heard after graduating from a 専門学校 you can only get a work visa from that field you have studied but I think I can maintain my 定住者 status.
