Trying to get a Child of Japanese National Visa but not on father’s Koseki Tohon

Hi,

I have already reached out to an immigration attorney for this process but wanted to see if anyone else has experience.

I am trying to get a child of Japanese national visa but am being told I may not receive it because I’m not on my father’s koseki tohon.

My mother is a US citizen & my father is a Japanese national. My father was in an estranged marriage and I was born illegitimate in Tokyo but with US Citizenship.

My parents never went through the process to try to get me Japanese citizenship as a child.

My father passed away and I am not on his koseki tohon.

I ended up reconnecting with my family in Japan and am trying to move there to raise our child and spend time with my family there.

I have proof he is my father such as him being on my US Birth Certificate, photos together, a letter to the US embassy saying he is my father which is signed by him in both English and Japanese.

If you or anyone you know has experience similarly I would love to connect.
