(repost as I wanted to add stuff)
Hi Everyone!
As the title says , this is the ‘almost finalised’ itinerary my friends and i made up for our 2 week trip in japan 🙂
I’m mainly looking for advice regarding Sapporo , Kyoto and our choice of activities to do in the new years. I also made the itinerary less-packed in a sense that we are free to do more things but then again we’d be delighted to do more during the trip as after all it is a post-graduation trip. I tried to make the activities near to each other location-wise but if there are any suggestions we are very open! Do let me know if I missed anything

-With the sale of IC cards being stopped in japan , are we able to just add a SUICA Card in our Apple Wallet without having an existing card/fee ?
-How crowded does it get at Yokohama during new years? We live about 30 mins by train from Minato Mirai , is that too far ?
Thank you so much for ur help !

I recently spent a few days in sapporo and walkee down that susukino covered street a few times to get to the fish market area and honestly there was nothing unique or special looking. What type of shop or goods are you looking for? The entire underground pedway starting from the jr station has lots and lots of shops and food and its warm. I have minimal insight into sapporo hotels but i would make sure its easy access to the underground pedway. The new AOAO aquarium is super cool and opens late.
For otaru there is a cool cluster of tiny restaurants near the canal. Not sure if open for lunch or only dinner. Otaru Denuki Koji.
For IC cards i think its just the one sold in tokyo, but having a card on your iphone is awesome. I am pretty sure you can just add it now to your apple wallet and see if you can fund from your applepay cc. Visa doesnt always work. Makes getting around and paying for stuff fast and convenient. Can use the card throughout japan and easy to add more funds using applepay.
For sapporo/otaru food i think standard is lots of local seafood (uni, scallops, crab, ikura so much ikura, etc), ghenghis khan which is lamb, soup curry, parfait (!!), miso ramen, sapporo beer, hokkaido ice cream and dairy products, royce chocolate (stock up on nama at the airport on the way home). Letao is great but also lots of other snacks along that otaru shopping street.
