Hi all, I am new to Japan as a resident and I want to buy a used car from a dealership.
I read some previous posts and I know someone who bought a used car with a loan and they can come with me to translate and help with the registration etc, but I don’t know any one who just paid for the car up front and I did not find this info yet.
Last time I bought a car (in Australia) I went to my bank, got a bank cheque with the dealership name and gave the cheque to the dealer. Is this also common in Japan? Or what would be the best way?

Bank deposit. When I bought mine they gave me their bank details and I just deposited the amount
Bank transfer, but they’ll press you to get in-house financing since it works better for them.
With interest rates so low it may get make sense to get a loan. We did so instead of paying cash and instead used it to invest.
I paid once with cash and once by bank transfer.. depended on the amount..
Bank transfer, but if you want to pay in good ol’ cash, they’ll take it. They’ll be a little confused, but they’ll take it. Paid for a new bike that way once just for the experience, totally worth it.
