Planning to spend December 29th-January 2nd Seishun 18 Kippu-ing from Okayama to Kyoto and back

What should I prepare for in terms of traveling around this time in Japan? I was planning to just stay in my city but the free nenkyuu is too good to just spend staying at home by myself.

I’m thinking of going the Seishun 18 route and taking my sweet time traveling in between Okayama and Kyoto, possibly spending new year’s day in Kyoto. I was wondering what I should look out for since I know some/most shops will be closed.

I was hoping to go to Kurashiki, Cafe Kitsune, and Korakuen Garden in Okayama, Kitano-cho and Nunobiki Herb Garden in Kobe, and Blue Bottle and Arabica in Kyoto but I don’t know if they’ll be open then. I’ve tried contacting some of the shops but to no avail. I was wondering if anyone else has an idea?
