I just got back from a trip to Beppu. I tried the mud onsen there. It’s probably not most people’s cup of tea. The building is spooky old and the mud is slimy, and the outside bath is mixed sex (You can’t see anything if you stay in the water because it’s opaque) but my skin looked pretty amazing afterward. Not sure if it’s my favorite but it certainly is my most memorable.
