Rules of flying food home?

I’m going home for Christmas, and I bought about a dozen small jars (roughly 8oz each) of Hokkaido-made jam for my family and friends as gifts. I couldn’t find much information about shipping jam specifically on Japan Post, but I’m thinking about packing them into a suitcase and checking it onto the plane.

Have any of you had experience bringing home non-perishables in this manner?

TIA

PS: “home” is Canada
