Inadvertently bought tax-free item while living here, what next?

Bit of a silly error this, but I hope it won’t be a big deal

A year ago I bought some ski pants in Tokyo while on a student visa. At the time the shop assistant asked for my passport and applied the tax exemption. I realise this is only meant to apply for non-residents in Japan

I haven’t left Japan since that day and am on a working visa now.
I may be planning a short trip home for a week or so, and am wondering what, if anything I will need to do about this?

i.e. Should I declare the item at customs and pay the tax there?

I have heard from other travellers that made tax-free shopping errors with consumables that customs didn’t even bother checking, but I’d rather keep everything above board while I’m living and working here.

EDIT: Receipt is also long since lost, if that affects things
