Sasuke Inari Shrine, Kamakura

Sasuke Inari Shrine, tucked away in the hills of Kamakura. I can’t find the exact date, but looks to be built in the late 1100s. Legend has it that Minamoto Yoritomo, a military commander , politician and the first seii taishogun (literally, “great general who subdues the barbarians”), had a dream about the old man who called himself a “Inari of Kakurezato” when he was sick . The old man said”, to take up arms against the Taira family.” He decided to take up arms against the Taira Family in 1180. In 1185 , Yoritomo’s forces of the Minamoto family defeated the Taira family in the Battle of Dannoura and won the war. Afterwards, the shrine was built.

From what I could translate, was told and could find, the “old man” was a fox, or fox god, which is why the shire is covered in so many foxes.
