Is WaniKani worth it if you already use Anki to study?

I’ve always heard great things about WaniKani and was waiting for the yearly discount, but after looking into it a bit more, I’m not sure if it’s worth it since I have been using Anki for a while (pretty deep in the 2k deck).

I also noticed there isn’t a dedicated App and that’s pretty important for me since I like to study on the go and not be tied down to a computer. Does Wanikani run well on mobile web browsing?

I’d love to hear your thoughts if you use both!

  1. The answer is no. You can get the entire contents of Wanikani through an anki deck as well I have one called “Wanikani Ultimate 2: electric Boogaloo”

  2. Take what I say with a grain of salt because I’ve never liked Anki, I found it ineffective and boring/frustrating.

But I will swear by Wanikani. Mnemonics help me so much to retain info. It also helps me break down and see the parts of a kanji to have it be more recognizable. It’s by far the best tool I’ve used to retain info long term.

I also have never used the wanikani on the web browser. It’s unfortnate that there’s no official app but there are some good third party apps. I use Kakumei, but there’s also Flaming Durtles I’ve heard good things about (I like the aesthetic of Kakumei more tho)
