Edit: in lieu of unemployment, if I were to resign from this position and there be a one month gap between the end of one job and the beginning of the other, what kind of documents would I need to submit to immigration/city office?

I’ve recently signed a contract to begin work at a new company in March. If I were to give my current company 2 weeks notice of resignation, is it possible to collect unemployment payments until my new contract starts? Or is it impossible since I’ve already signed a new contract?
