Visa question

So I’m a pretty long time resident married to a Japanese national with a spousal visa and a child. If we were to divorce would any visa be available to me given my child is a Japanese citizen?

  1. Go for PR before you divorce, although even after divorce as you have a child you can probably swing a long term resident status.

But seriously get PR now while it’s straight forward.

  2. In certain situations they do give a long-term resident status if it’s beneficial to the child. I do not know what the criteria are or how long one can stay on it.

Edit: [This site](https://www.tn-office.jp/14103304446187) says the requirements to switch to a LTR status are either 1) have enough income to make an independent living, or 2) parental authority of the child. Remember, Japan does not have shared custody.
