Semester abroad in Osaka.

Hi!

I’ve been learning Japanese for several years now and will take the JLPT exam in July next year. I’m a literature and philosophy student in my own country (Netherlands).

My university has an exchange programme with several universities in Japan, including University Osaka, which has caught my eye. They have a few courses about globalisation in literature and English-Japanese cultural interaction, haha. I think I have a pretty decent chance of getting into the programme (my grades are good and I’ll have an official language document supporting my motivation letter in a bit). This exchange would be in about 2 years – I’m a worrier by nature, that’s why I’m asking this now.

University Osaka’s exchange programme provides housing which costs about as much as the scholarship for studying abroad from my uni, so that’s pretty much covered. My question is: how much should I save up for food and other daily necessities? I’m fine with cooking for myself on a low budget most days. I’ll probably want to travel around to other cities on weekends and such, but I think I can draft a budget for that based on information available online. What I’m really concerned about is ‘regular’ daily life costs.

Thank you in advance and have a good day!
