Do I have to work a full time job while I am under a Humanities/International Services Work Visa?

Some background, I’m an American currently working a full time job in Japan under Humanities/International Services Visa for the company that sponsored my work visa. I would like to quit my full time job at my current company and work under a contract job (not as an employee) that I am being offered for a Japanese company. Assume this contract job falls under the Humanities/International Services category of my visa.

My question, can I leave my current company and work for only in this contract job in which I am not an employee of the company that offered me this contract job? It is not full time and has flexible hours such as I will be able to work as much or as little as I want. In addition, it is a remote position but has an office in Tokyo that I can work at if I wish. Will I retain my work visa without any issues or risk having it revoked if I only do this contract work?

Any guidance would be most appreciated.
