I am 26 and graduated 4 years ago with a BSc in Environmental Science. Ive wanted to move to japan since college. I find the country pretty intriguing due to how different it is from the USA and adventure is just apart of my personality, since 18 ive lived in canada for five years and moved from east coast to west coast. I understand i might not like japan, and that it is difficult for foreigners to get a job, let alone integrate into japanese society. But the fact ive wanted to do this for over 5 years tells me it will be something i regret if i dont end up at least trying
My work experience is as follows:
– 16 months cumulative gis experience (8 months as research assistant and then an 8 month work contract)
– 4 months as interp park ranger
– 2 years as education coordinator for composting company.
– (Misc work in retail and food service too)
Any ideas on possible pathways I can take?
– Ive thought about jet but always here it is career suicide and was hard to transition out of jet into another career in japan
– Considered MEXT but i want a degree that would actually serve me long term not one i would do just to get me to japan.
– Considered saving for 1 year of japanese language school but thought that was a lot of money for something i might not use if i end up actually not liking japan.
– Lastly, i am aware of this company near Kyoto that offers internships for international folks, but they’re only 3 months long and are done on tourist visas so ive considered that but realize its not an actual pathway to citizenship since its on tourist visa.
Any other ideas on possible pathways to japan, or what might be my best option? Im thinking jet seems to make the most sense since it doesnt cost me anything except a year gap in my reaume which i can easily explain if i decide to return, and then if i DO like japan i can start planning how to stay there long term while on jet.
What do y’all think?
