Immigration bureau expectations when you’re changing citizenship?

Okay, so when I was in language school, I knew that I need to get 100% attendance rate and this is the only thing immigration service care when they were updating my visa from student to the working one. So I got my 5 years-long visa with no problem and any single call from there.

Now my next goal is to get Japanese citizenship or permanent residence, which would involve interaction with immigration bureau once again.

**So my question for this post is: what do they care about on this stage?**

What can cause problems? What are their expectations?

Anything besides clear police record? Frequency of changing one’t job? Salary amount? Anything else? (I know one would try to maximize their salary even without considerations about citizenship, but lets talk about all, even most obvious things)
