Safe to switch jobs when PR application is in process?

I m 30 yr old male working in Tokyo as full time employee. I applied for my PR in September this year. According to my agent I have pretty good chance of getting a PR as I have above 85+ pts. However, the agent also told me that it takes at least 10 months these days for PR approval. Which means I will get my PR by At least July 2024.
My concern is that I want to switch jobs for better role and pay by March 2024.

(I am a permanent employee now and looking forward to get a permanent position in my next job as well)

Is it safe to switch jobs when my PR application is in progress?
How can switching jobs will affect my chances?
Should I wait until I get my PR ?

  1. You can switch job as long as you properly inform immigration. Considering that even your current job gives you 85+ pts, if I were you I would feel pretty confident switching to a better one.

  2. I’d changed job during my process and had no issue getting it. 5th month during application I changed job and in the 11th month the PR were approved. I did informed the immigration I had moved to another company. No issue whatsoever.

PS. I didn’t use any lawyer, self applied.

  3. Yes it’s safe, providing your new job can still support you. I lost my job mid-way through my application, but was able to show my new job was good to go.

You’ll need to phone them and let them know. Then they’ll send you an envelope with a list of things you need to provide them. It was just a certificate of employment or contract for my new job, and proof that my health insurance and tax was taken care of.

    Good luck!
