Seeking Advice: Engineer Visa Holder in Japan Denied Part-Time Work, Need Extra Income

Hey everyone, I need some advice regarding securing a part-time job as an engineer visa holder here in Japan. I visited immigration yesterday and applied for “資格外活動許可” (Permission to engage in activities other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted form). Unfortunately, it was declined, citing restrictions on working in restaurants or convenience stores due to my visa type.

I’m a permanent employee with overtime every day, but my salary isn’t sufficient due to some family financial issues I’m supporting. Changing companies isn’t an option as I feel adequately compensated in my current role. However, I desperately need extra income and am willing to work on Saturdays and Sundays.

I’ve tried applying as an English instructor part-time, but no luck so far. Even one-day arubaito applications haven’t been successful, possibly due to my visa status. Has anyone faced a similar situation or has advice on finding part-time work within the visa restrictions? Your insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
