I have used second hand stores (hard-off, treasure factory (Torefaku), etc.) to buy a few things over the past couple of years and I noted that, while prices are lower than you will find on the same items new, it’s not THAT much lower, so I assumed they must also pay well for them. However, I bought a pair of hiking boots for 15,000jpy and wore them once, but I didn’t really like them. I washed the soles and they looked brand new. Then I took them to Torefaku Sports and had them assessed. They offered me 2,000jpy for them. That is pretty Torefakking insulting.
Now I have a bunch of photography gear that I would like to sell, including a Godox AD600pro strobe and some Bowens-mount reflectors, all barely used. But I hate to pack them all up and haul them all the way to Shinjuku only to find out they’re going to offer me some insultingly paltry amount. I am hoping my experience with the boots was an anomaly, or maybe that shoes are always the exception.
Have any of you sold cameras, computers or other electronic gear to a second hand store in Japan and, if so, did they give you a decent price?
