Hi everyone! I am transferring to a school next semester that requires me to learn Japanese. So for the program I have to go through Genki lessons:1-10. I have done just the slightest bit of self study. Starting tomorrow I will embark on this. If there are any tips or advice that could be offered that would be amazing. I’m scared but excited and would love the support and assistance. Thank you

I’ve been speaking the Japanese language since 1978. (I’m a redneck from Texas.) My employers and my wife are Japanese. The best advice I can give you is to expand beyond the Genki lessons as much as you can. For example…
1. There are thousands of language videos on YouTube. See *and* hear new words.
2. What is your favorite topic/subject? Google it in Japanese and use an online translator to understand what the article/blog is saying about it.
3. Make friends with Japanese people.
4. Don’t avoid writing hiragana, katakana, and kanji.
5. Have fun.
6. Eat more sushi. Order in Japanese.
Honestly just believe in the book, do a lesson a week and I recommend using the flash card application “Anki” to make decks for the vocabulary introduced in each lesson. If you do that the book will provide you with all the necessary information. But if you truly want to learn Japanese you’re gonna need more than just necessary.
Like other people are saying there are plenty of great videos and website out there so learning more by yourself is quite easy to do. I do have a list of study resources that I have saved to send to people wanting to learn Japanese so if you would like that just send a dm.
Good luck!
