We are used to all manner of critters and creatures. Deer, bears, racoons, tanuki, snakes, foxes and mukade to name a few .. But this year カメムシ have been extreme. And deserve the title of “pest of the year”. Yesterday three were in the house. They just keep coming. A few weeks ago one dropped into the miso. The worst is when one is in the shower and the steam plus l’odeur de カメムシ makes for a very quick bath.
I used to be tolerant to the smell of them but after the past year I just can’t stand them.
There’s a saying that if there’s a lot of カメムシ we’re set for a very cold winter. I’m all for that if that keeps the population down next year.
I have to brush down logs from the log pile before bringing them in to burn. On average 5-10 on each log from an old wood pile. Never seen numbers like this before.
