First time posting here, looking for some help regarding itinerary planning (as the title suggests)
I’m going to Japan for the second time with my partner from April 24th – May 9th in 2024. We have a total of 4 full days in Tokyo and have a lot we want to see. Our time in Tokyo happens to fall at the end of Golden Week and the few days after, from May 4th – 8th. Now, I’m aware of the possibility of tourist crowds and such and we really don’t mind all that, the main issue here is we are trying to work out which areas would be best to hit on which days.
I had planned for us to do Harajuku (takeshita street for shopping and such) on Tuesday the 7th, once Golden Week has officially ended, but was unsure whether the shops would be open and such as it will be on the tail end of a busy period?
There are a couple of other spots such as museums in Asakusa, and the Imperial Gardens etc. that we don’t mind being with the crowds for but aren’t sure whether these destinations would be open on the final national holiday days of the 5th/6th.
For more specific reference, these are the main events we want to allocate to each of the days from 4th – 8th. (Apologies for any misspellings)
1: skytree, nakamisedori street, sword museum, akihabara arcades
2: takeshita street, yoyogi park, shinjuku in the evening for nightlife
3: imperial gardens/palace grounds, central tokyo shopping areas, hamarikyu gardens
4: shibuya 109, crossing, shibuya sky, meeting some family in Shibuya for rooftop dinner, drinking night out
We are packing a fair bit into these days, but my partner and I prefer to be busy on holiday!
If anyone could provide any insight into if there are specific spots that are commonly closed during these times that would be very helpful! 🙂
