Jingisukan places in Sapporo with Vegetarian Options?

Going on a road trip in a few days, and really want to do dinner one night at a Jingisukan restaurant. However one of the group is a pescatarian (vegetarian but fish/seafood is fine)

I’m looking around Sapporo City and (not surprising) struggling to find any. I’m hoping someone here might have a recommendation?

  1. Literally any restaurant in Japan will have at least one fish only option. I’m an actual vegetarian and pretty much any izakaya has options for me, so someone who can eat fish will have too many options to choose from

  2. you should be looking for restaurant specializing in hokkaido cuisine and not a jingisukan specific store. the former will have more varied menu plus jingisukan compared to the latter type.

  3. You are unlikely to find vegetarian options in a true ジンギスカン restaurant that gives you a charcoal hibachi grill on countertop in a smoke filled room. Anyway, it is too hot right now for that experience.

You most probably will have to try one of the chains that let you order vegetables as a side but you will need to use same grill as for meat. Try Matsuyo in Nihon Seimei building near Sapporo station. They have tables with built in grill and let you order different meats and vegetables. Also, consider Yakiniku restaurants, they tend to have more options.

  4. When I went a couple of years ago, the restaurant at the Sapporo Brewery was doing all-you-can-eat crab + jingisukan (+probably sides etc).
