Investing money in Japan

I have some money in the US sitting in my bank accounts at home in stocks. Now that the yen has lowered. Would it be a good idea to place $8,000 here in yen? My wife thinks it is gaining money if we do this. I don’t know about investing in foreign currency. We will be here for 3 years more I think. Any idea on doing this? We would only sit on the money and use for emergency

  1. If you are American it’s not worth the hassle. I tried Rakuten securities, but they wouldn’t let me set up an account without jumping through a bunch of hoops.

  2. I have all my money in dollars and would/ will never switch it to yen for investing.. my wife’s Japanese broker told her to invest in US stocks ( separate acct)

there’s so many easier options.. even the savings rate on my brokerage acct is like 2 percent… here’s its obscenely low. can’t write it..

  3. Have you considered i-bonds through treasure direct?

Edit: I mean investing in the U.S.
