Part-time sponsored work visa

I’m looking into the options of staying in Japan after my student visa expires, for me and my wife (non-Japanese).

I have an IT bachelor and several years of work experience, so finding a job as an engineer is possible. However, I don’t need the money. I just need a visa so I can keep living in Japan. Thus, I’m looking at ways to get a visa while doing as little hours of work as possible. I just want to live here, maybe buy an old house and renovate it. Won’t have time for this if I’m on the full-time grind.

Has anyone heard of companies sponsoring engineer visa to people working part time? An alternative could be teaching English, if that would be less of a weekly time investment.

Edit: yes, I know about the designated activities visa. This is not ideal since it won’t count as residency towards eventual PR. It also means neither of us can do any sort of work, including baito.
