it’s a crutch but chatgpt is miles ahead of deepL. It can actually understand context
DeepL is really good. It can give a good translation maybe 70% of the time depending on context.
After my experience and tests way ahead of Google Translate but worse than ChatGPT. ChatGPT is better in understanding context. If you translate whole paragraphs with multiple sentences Google Translate is usually a clown show when it comes to choosing the correct pronouns, DeepL gets a lot of them right but a quarter to a third is still wrong and ChatGPT usually gets 99% right.
The greatness of DeepL is famous among Master’s degree students in Japan.

DeepL is wayyy more accurate than Google Translate, however I find it difficult to use because it doesn’t have Romaji, so when you translate from English to Japanese, you can’t pronounce it…. unless I’ve got some setting wrong..
None of these things is perfect but if you head on over to forums for professional translators it sounds like the market has overwhelmingly moved to post-editing machine translations rather than original translation.
it doesn’t have a great grasp on vocab. for example it translates “boyfriend” as ボーイフレンド and not 彼氏, which is kinda funny but would never be used in normal conversation lol i actually use the translate bot on LINE when idk how to say something and it’s a bit more accurate.
