I hope you’re all doing well. I’m a 26-year-old guy living in the Philippines, and I’d really appreciate your insights and advice on a unique situation I’m facing.
I’m half Japanese, currently residing here with my Japanese mom who has been in the Philippines for over 20 years. My citizenship is Filipino, and unfortunately, I couldn’t process the necessary documents to become a Japanese citizen before hitting my 20s.
I pursued a degree in BSIT but didn’t manage to graduate. I’ve decided against going back to complete it due to a change in the curriculum, which would require me to repeat four years. I taught myself how to code in 2020 and worked so hard and built my own portfolio. Eventually got hired. Currently, I’ve got 2 years of working experience under my belt.
My dream is to move to Japan, be fluent in Japanese before I get 30 and before I start a family, secure a tech job, and start a new chapter of my life there. I can speak Japanese reasonably well, although my Kanji skills could use some improvement. I haven’t obtained any JLPT certifications yet, but I’m planning to take the N4 exam soon.
I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience or advice on navigating my unique circumstances. What would be the best approach for someone in my position to land a Software Engineer job in Japan?
Thanks a bunch for taking the time to read this, and I’m looking forward to your valuable insights!
