What would be the best equivalent to OG (original Gangsta)

What would be the best term for original crew or group or, for lack of a better term, OG.
Is there a slang used for people who were the first of a group?

Side note, is there an “urban dictionary” equivalent for Japanese?

Thank you!

  1. 最初の人. (Saisho no hito). I don’t know if it’s actually used in this case, and it’s pretty literal and not slangy. It means something like “first person, or original person”. Alternatively you could just say, オジ. (OJI) Take this with a grain of salt though, cuz my Japanese is not that good.

  2. This made my head spin for a second because OG in Japanese is an abbreviation of old girl sometimes used for ex members of clubs and companies. (Like if you graduated from high school and visited a club you used to be in you would be called an OG if you were a woman). OB is for men.

To answer your question though, it’s hard to give an exact answer. If you’re going after the feeling of the word? ホンモノ is probably your best bet, as it has the slight non-grammatically correct informal tone and means “real thing” which is close I guess. If you wanted a bad translation that matches somewhat 元祖 or “originator” would be what I expect from dodgy translations.

Japanese rap is HEAVILY based on American rap though and the way that Japanese works you sometimes just hear rappers use OG. By the way? I recommend checking out R指定 if you’re looking into Japanese rap.

There are some net speak or slang dictionaries out there, even some of the major web dictionaries have some very slangy stuff in them, but nothing like Urban dictionary that I’ve seen.
