Wife’s friend (both Japanese) has a really shady husband who is separated but has been in and out of jail and they don’t know what his and his family’s business is… But she (the wife’s friend) has gotten a job from her the business and her duties are basically to create fake social media accounts (sock puppets) all day. It sounds like they then gather followers (of other fake accounts) and sell the accounts to interested parties. Super shady and even the wife’s friend doesn’t know what they’re doing. While it’s shady I’m not sure about whether it is legal or not, i.e. if she would get in trouble too for her role in it.
