Homeschooling in Japan

Does anyone here have any experience homeschooling their children in Japan? I was under the impression that homeschooling was possible but only after your child reaches 14 years of age. There aren’t too many posts on Reddit about this but I was able to find a Facebook group for homeschooling in Japan via a now deleted Reddit post.

I recently saw a YouTube video where two foreign siblings were homeschooled for the entirety of their school years in Japan. They didn’t go into the details on how they were able to do this but I am assuming they were military or some type of diplomatic expat.

I also read somewhere that the Japanese government makes exceptions for foreign kids to be homeschooled due to language barriers & the inability to cater to the educational wants that these parents may have for their kids. My daughter has dual citizenship, Japanese & my home country, so technically she does have the foreigner excuse.

I don’t intend to make a big deal out of this situation and try and force the government to allow me to homeschool my kids but homeschool is something I’d consider if it’s not a hassle to do.
