[homemade] Hayashi rice ハヤシライス

Hashed beef in a demi glacé gravy with quartered baby bella mushrooms and sautéed sweet onions, white rice, and furikake seasoning. Not the prettiest dish, but was in the mood for something cozy. Hayashi rice is a western influenced dish said to come from a mining town called Ikuno in the Hyōgo Prefecture of Japan in the south. The origins of hayashi rice are a bit murky but it was created in the early 1860’s and it’s said a French miner who was working in this former mining town in 1868 tried this dish and went on to make his own adaptation of it which is the version we have today, this style of cooking is known in Japan as yōshoku or western style cuisine.
