Making my second trip to Japan this spring. Last time I made zero plans and played it by ear. This time my brother and sister-in-law are coming and I want to make sure I use my time a bit more effectively. Itinerary is very flexible. We land at Narita and will do the usual locations (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Miyajima), but the ‘when and where’ is still open.

With that in mind, any festivals going on in that period that people would really recommend getting to? I caught a couple small festivals the first time I was there out of luck and want to make sure my bro and SIL get the same chance. The Kintaikyo on the 29th looks neat (if out of the way). Biggest thing they’ll want to see is people in kimonos/yukatas, food stalls and just people out having fun.
