Hi all
I am a father to a wonderful 2 year old boy and am living in Tokyo. His mother is Japanese and has spoken to him in Japanese since he was born, and I’ve only been speaking to him in English. We are basically doing the one parent one language thing. He attends Japanese daycare where they only speak Japanese and I’m noticing that while he seems to understand everything in English, his output is 95% Japanese. I think this is normal considering he’s in daycare for 6h of the day, but I’m wondering if any parents in a similar situation have had success in getting their child to speak more English.
Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!
