I recently bought a desk in Ikea (Lagktapen table top + 2 Alex drawer sets), but Iǘe found out the tabletop is made from a cardboard honeycomb with thin wood veneers. That means I can’t drill holes, and I have to be careful with applying too much pressure (ie: using a monitor arm with 3 monitors).
So I’m thinking of replacing it with real wood, that way I can make any changes as needed, cut, drill, etc. On the negative side, it will look worse, and be much heavier.
The only decent piece of wood I’ve been able to find is a 210x3x60cm piece of Sumatran pine (メルクシパイン) in Conan for 7,500 yen. I wonder if I can find anything better in other stores.
Any recommendations on where to buy or how to work with wood? I don’t have much experience in this area, so feel free to share.
