For those renewing their license in Saitama (whether at a police station or the license center in Konosu), you will no longer be able to pay in cash from January 2024. Payments are all cashless (including IC cards such as Suica and Pasmo). It seems like this is a Saitama only change for now, but I can see it extending to other prefectures if successful.
