Used bike shops

Any good shops to buy a cheap ish used bike in Tokyo? I’ve looked on Sayonara sales groups and Craigslist but there isn’t much choice at the moment plus I would prefer seeing them in person in a store. I’m open to traveling outside the 23 wards if needed

  1. I haven’t seen any locally but in Yamanashi the Hard Offs normally had a selection of bicycles for sale. Honestly though for the savings you would be better off buying new and at a shop though.

  2. Depends what kind of bike you are looking for. For commuter and more serious bike try Buychari. For more race stuff Cypara is good.

  3. Sometimes your local mom & pop bike store also has used bicycles.

Bici Amore has a store in Minami Azabu for used road bikes.

  4. Cycle Paradise in Kasai has a big warehouse of bikes (although bizarrely you still have to order them online) but, because of the higher quality, they can be pricey.

  5. One thing to keep in mind with used bikes is you never know if there’s any hidden damage.
Especially for carbon forks you can’t see the damage unless you do a scan which usually costs a 20-40,000 JPY. A crack in the fork can lead to the whole fork breaking in the middle of the ride. It’s basically Russian roulette.

  6. It’s really worth checking Y’s Road online on Fridays – they always put a handful of bikes from various ranges on sale, sometimes for steep discounts. I was gutted when the gravel bike I’ve been eyeing showed up on sale… but only the 50cm frame (I need a 54…)

  7. The [Suginami Clean Cycle](https://webc.sjc.ne.jp/suginami/activity_5) program at the Suginami Silver Jinzai Center / Green Cycle reconditions and sells impounded bicycles for a reasonable price (JPY7,000). The sale is held a few days each month.

Best picks are on the first day, which is only open via lottery. 2nd and 3rd day is open to the public. August dates are from 22-24.

If it matters to you, according to their site, they do not have any electric assist bicycles.

That said, I would recommend finding a place reasonably close by where you live, unless you plan to have a long ride home after buying your bike.
