Offered a Senior Manager level job in Japan – no Japanese skills needed. Please help with some questions.

Hi all,

I have been offered a transfer within my current company to work in Japan (from the UK).

The package that I am being offered appears to be fairly generous, 13.5m JPY a year, key money and other costs covered, 30 days in a serviced apartment upon arrival, etc.

The expected minimum time that I would be living and working in Japan is two years, and I have already begun intensive Japanese lessons (I’ve previously worked for Honda and have spent time in Japan, so I can at least get by).

I have some questions that I could really do with some experienced help with please:

1. It would be my girlfriend and I moving over together, I assume that we will need to get married before this is possible?

2. I take an anti-depressant, I have checked and it has regulatory approval in Japan – what would my process be for continuing my treatment over there? Obviously I cannot take a break in my medication.

3. Is https://japantaxcalculator.com/ accurate? I have been trying to calculate my monthly income to help me work out where we could reasonably afford to live.

4. Is there anything else that I should be considering?

Thank you!
