First Day as a Preschool Teacher Tomorrow – Need Advice!

Hi everyone,

Exciting news – I got accepted for a preschool teaching position! Tomorrow is my trial lesson, a whopping 4 hours. I asked the school what I should bring, but they said not to bring anything. It’s my first time, and honestly, I’m feeling a bit lost. 😅

Is a trial lesson in this context usually a demo lesson? Should I prepare a lesson plan? The children are between 3-6 years old. Any seasoned teachers out there who can share some insights or tips for a first-timer like me?

They mentioned it’s a 4-hour session, but I’m not sure what to expect. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Just to provide some context—I’ve shared here before about my full-time engineering job. I took on this part-time role as a preschool teacher on Saturdays to boost my income.

Update:

Just wrapped up the 4-hour color fiesta at the preschool, and let me spill the beans!

(I appreciate all your comments and support. I couldn’t reply to each one, but I’ve read them all🥺.)

There were three teachers, including me. The topic was familiarization with colors.

1st hour: Planning and prepping for our color-filled adventure.
2nd-3rd hour: Diving into a relaxed, play-based approach to introduce colors. Some kids were already English whizzes!
4th hour: Tidying up the playful chaos.

Truth bomb: As many of you mentioned,it’s a bit more babysitting than English wizardry, and that 3rd hour almost had me tapping out, but I SURVIVED! 🌟Thanks for your invaluable advice! 🌈”
