I lived in Shibuya for about a year. During that time, I was able to get well-connected in the nightlife scene there. Was basically a process of meeting club promoters, then the managers, and getting invited to lesser-known DJ bars and private events.
In Shibuya this felt easy and a process that anyone could intuit. However, I moved to the Kabukicho area a month ago and I’m finding networking to be much more opaque. Every establishment seems to be one of three things:
1. Extremely tame, nothing to investigate (e.g. HUB)
2. Fun but exceedingly small bars (e.g. Golden Gai)
2. Non applicable venues: scam bars, fuuzoku, host clubs
I’m finding it hard to find solid places to go out with my friends for a night and get to know the people there. I’m always finding it tempting to just go to Shibuya, but I want to get to know this area too. How do you all manage it?
