Work for Canadian employer in Japan with Spousal Visa?

Goal: Move to Japan with a Spousal Visa while working for a Canadian employer.

Question: Is this possible without being double taxed?

From my understanding, I can drop my Canadian residency as I would be a Japanese resident, meaning I should only need to pay tax in Japan.
What would that mean for my employer? Would they still be required to withhold taxes from my income?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I only have 2 options:

1. Work as a regular employee and get taxed by my employer while also paying tax in Japan on that income (double taxed).
2. Convince my employer to switch me over as a contracted employee.

Any advice would be appreciated!
